J-Hawks Survive at Senior

Jefferson @ Dubuque Senior

Tuesday, December 15, 2009

Tonight’s game was a perfect example to the physicality of the MVC. Dubuque Senior always plays the J-Hawks tough and tonight was no exception. The story of the game was the bookends the J-Hawks put together in the first and fourth quarter scoring 23 and 25 respectively. The J-Hawks managed to maintain the lead throughout the first two quarters, taking a 28-26 lead into the half.

The third quarter was more of the same for the J-Hawks as they struggled to get anything going offensively and fell behind 38-36. The Rams must be given a lot of credit as they took Jefferson out of their game. As has been the case in this early season, the J-Hawks offense was ignited by their ability to defend and rebound. Unofficially the J-Hawks outrebounded the Rams 26-20 with Uthoff grabbing 12.

Taylor Olson, SophomoreThe majority of the scoring was done through sophomore Taylor Olson and junior Jarrod Uthoff. Taylor Olson finished with 15 points and a team-high 4 assists. Uthoff continues to lead the J-Hawks going off for 27. The J-Hawks sealed the game down the stretch hitting their free throws and tightening up their defense to limit the Rams ability to get inside.

Jefferson’s record improves to 4-0 on the young season and going to 2-0 in the MVC. The J-Hawks will host the Warriors Friday night as part of a boy/girl doubleheader. The boys will play the second game, anticipated to begin around 7:30PM.

---

The J-Hawk sophomores fought tooth and nail with the Rams throughout the game. After jumping out to an early eight point lead, the Rams quickly came back. The J-Hawks came out a played a tough second half to defeat the Rams 47-41. They improve to 3-1 on the season and will travel to Washington to take on the Warriors as part of the sophomore boy/girl doubleheader Thursday night. They will play the second game and start around 7:30PM.

J-Hawks Improve to 3-0

Jefferson v. Marion

Saturday, December 12, 2009

Joby Frey, SeniorComing off an electric atmosphere on Friday against Xavier, the J-Hawks struggled to deliver the final knockout against Marion until the fourth quarter. When the J-Hawks would get out to a lead the Indians always seemed to fight their way back. As with the case in the previous two games, Jefferson dominated the boards, outrebounding the Indians by a total of 38-14. Jarrod Uthoff continues to be the team leader with a game-high of 15.

At the half the J-Hawks held on to a 28-23 lead and built it up to thirteen by the end of the third quarter. Free throws and rebounding helped the J-Hawks seal the win in the fourth quarter. The final score was 70-54.Teyshawn Campbell, Sophomore

The J-Hawks again had three players in double-digits. Uthoff paced the way with 20 points and Joby Frey found his range from outside connecting on 3 three-pointers and finishing with 16 points. Teyshawn Campbell also added 14 points and went 8-8 from the free throw line. Tyler Meiborg and Taylor Olson contributed with 9 points.

Jefferson’s record improves to 3-0 and will take that record into Dubuque as the Rams bring with them an experienced and physical team.

---

The J-Hawk sophomores were able to rebound after a tough loss last night with a 55-37 victory over Marion. Jefferson’s record improves to 2-1 and will play a tough Dubuque Senior team on Tuesday.

Jefferson Rolls Over Saints

Jefferson v. Xavier

Friday, December 11, 2009

Photo courtesy of Stacey HodgesAfter holding on to a two point lead at the end of the first quarter, the J-Hawk defense buckled down and held the Saints to six points in the second quarter. A tough half-court defense combined with transition buckets helped Jefferson hold on to a 34-18 lead at the half. The J-Hawks went on a 15-4 run to end the half.

The Saints cut the J-Hawk lead in the third quarter, but Jefferson flurried in the fourth quarter to put Xavier away. Once again the J-Hawks dominated the boards, nearly doubling Xavier’s totals. Jarrod Uthoff led the way with 10 rebounds followed closely behind Joby Frey with 9. Several J-Hawks tallied the points with three players in double-figures including Jarrod Uthoff with 23, Taylor Olson with 19, and Tyler Meiborg with 10.

Jefferson’s record improves to 2-0 on the young season. The J-Hawks have little time to rest as they host the Marion Indians tomorrow at home. Tipoff is an hour earlier with the Sophomores tipping off at 5:00PM.

---

The J-Hawk sophomores struggled to find consistency. After a sluggish first half the J-Hawks battled back in the second half chipping a double-digit lead to within four. The Saints held on for 56-46 victory.

J-Hawks Come Alive Late

Jefferson @ Clinton

Tuesday, December 1, 2009

After trailing 44-30 entering the fourth quarter, the J-Hawks turned the tempo up to climb their way to a 55-49 victory. The J-Hawks struggled early to get anything going. The River Kings capitalized off eleven first half turnovers by the J-Hawks to take a 30-19 lead into halftime.

The J-Hawks came out of the half looking to push the tempo. It took much of the third quarter to rattle the River Kings, but Jefferson was still unable to cut into the lead. The fourth quarter proved to be the quarter where they began to fire on all cylinders. The J-Hawks struggled to make shots from the outside, but looked to get the ball inside and score in transition. The River Kings began to feel the pressure and were forced into several key turnovers by Taylor Olson and Tyler Meiborg. A key steal by Olson resulted in a technical foul from a Clinton guard and led to the J-Hawks tying the game at 44.

When the J-Hawks struggled to score, Jarrod Uthoff continued to dominate in the post, often being double and triple-teamed. When his shots were not there, he often looked for his teammates in and outside the lane. If there was a rebound to be had, Uthoff was there to grab it. Jarrod finished with a game-high 18 rebounds. He was also the leading scorer with 25 points. Jefferson dominated the boards, outrebounding Clinton 35-13. The J-Hawks outscored the River Kings 25-5 in the fourth quarter and hit free throws down the stretch to hold on to the victory.

The J-Hawks record goes to 1-0 and will travel to Waterloo West to face the Wahawks in a non-conference battle Tuesday, December 8.

---

The J-Hawk sophomores were also victorious, defeating Clinton by a score of 80-42. The J-Hawks had four players in double-figures. The sophomores start the season 1-0 and will also travel to Waterloo West.
